These are questions that are always common at any time and place:
What is the origin of mankind—where did we come from?
What is our purpose in life?
How do we know how to live our life?

In this study we will answer these and many other questions. The purpose of the course is to guide you through some of the highlights of the Bible. While it is only a brief overview covering a small portion of Scripture, this outline covers most of the basic concepts of the Christian faith.

You may be coming to this study from a particular perspective. You may have a curious or an academic approach, seeking to find some intellectual satisfaction in religion. Or you may even be an atheist, looking for ways to satisfy your previously conceived ideas.

Perhaps you are broken and hurting, and desperately need spiritual help. Or perhaps you are self-assured, confident in where you are at this time—but an examination of your weaknesses would actually help you deal with your selfishness and lack of concern for others.

Our study will jump around throughout the Bible to focus on important themes. We suggest that you read every verse listed in this study that has the notation READ immediately in front of it; others may be skipped to speed up the study. While we will offer our commentary as an aid, the important thing is for you to let the words of the Bible speak to you. You can complete the study, if you choose to do so, in one sitting—in less than a day. Set aside a few hours one day to go through the entire study. Or you might want to break it up into two or three parts.

The Bible is an amazing document: an incredibly rich book of books: 66 books from approximately 40 different writers in 3 different languages over a span greater than 1500 years, all with a consistent theme. It is certainly the most influential book in history. Whether Christian or not, one’s education is incomplete until you have studied this book.

There is tremendous misinformation over what is actually in the Bible. Sadly, many people who have gone to church for years still do not have a comprehensive understanding of the Bible. Lifelong Christians still learn much and deepen their knowledge of God by reading Scripture. The Bible reveals God’s thoughts, his heart, his plans.

Why People Are So Confused About God

Never in American history have people been any more confused about God and the Bible than they are today. Having been a born again believer for over 25 years, I don't have a problem recognizing the devil at work. The devil is a master counterfeiter, a fraudster. Satan is so deceitful that he even presents himself to mankind as an "angel of light" (2nd Corinthians 11:14). This is a very interesting statement..."an angel of light". An "angel" is a spirit. Satan is a spirit, and he appears as a spirit of light (or spirit of God and truth). If you understand this Biblical teaching, then it won't be very difficult to see the devil in his sheep's clothing. We see Satan's spirit at work in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2).

Anton LaVey and Hotel California

"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" —Revelation 13:4

Hotel California is the hit album and song produced in 1976 by the Eagles' rock band.

On the inside of the album cover, pictured to the right, Anton LaVey (founder of the Church of Satan in 1966) is seen peering down from the balcony (who is circled in red).

The Eagles' manager, Larry Salter, admitted in the Waco Tribune-Herald (Feb. 28, 1982), that the Eagles were involved with the Church of Satan! Not surprisingly, one of the Eagles' songs is titled “Have A Good Day in Hell.”

Around the world, the song Hotel California is still aired on radio waves tens-of-thousands of times per day. The song has become as a national anthem in America! Nearly every band performs the song.

Teen Idols

Words "etched" into your impressionable young son or daughters minds — that would make any sane mom or dad "go ballistic".

It’s amazing the "hoodwink" the media and the producers of the "teen idol-rock-world" has pulled on the average parent. The "teen idol" picture painted by the image-makers is a "baby-innocent, squeaky-clean, puppy-love, high-morals, boy-next-door" portrait.

As one "fooled" mother comments in Express Writer:, "Their [Backstreet Boys] focus is on good morals. . ." (Express Writer, Sunday, August 16, 1998)

Well, mom, you might better sit down and fasten your seat belt. . . this ride might get rough. . .

Why not use rock as a tool to reach young people?

One of the main justifications of CCM is using rock as "a tool to reach people" for Christ. The idea is to "entice" the lost person into listening to the music by making it sound like the world's music. Then once they're "rockin-out" - subtly "sneak" in the Lord Jesus Christ. Look like "rock", sound like "rock", act like "rock" and once they're "sucked-in" - slip in the Lord Jesus Christ!
While this may sound great on the surface, as Christians our final authority is the Word of God. We as Christians are to "judge" anything and everything by the Word of God. As you'll soon read, using rock music as a method of evangelizing is completely against the Word of God. We have documented FOUR clear and serious Biblical errors. This page is lengthy, but please read it prayerfully and carefully, in it's entirety. Also please note, the many clear scripture references, and many more could be given.

Introduction

TEXT: Leviticus 10:1-3 & 10

"And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;"

Why did God consume (398 - burn up) these two priests in this awesome manifestation of judgment? Two reasons are given for God's judgment.

Their Actions Were Outside Of God's Mandates:

Leviticus 10:1 "And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not."

Nadab and Abihu decided to follow their own inclinations and fancies instead of following the revealed will of God in their worship. Proverbs 14:12 & 16:25 ring true. "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." These two priests had a real "Raiders of The Lost Ark" experience. I don't think there was any question in the minds of the Israelites that day regarding whether God approved of offering "strange fire before the LORD," do you? So, what does that tell us? When it comes to worshipping and serving Him, God does NOT allow us to improvise! He expects us to live within the bounds of His divine mandates!

This passage of scripture reveals a second reason for God's judgment:

In the world of biology, we are given the example of a frog that when placed into boiling water, will immediately jump out. However, if that same frog is put into a bowl of cool water which is slowly heated by a bunsen burner, the frog will eventually boil to death.

Religious rock and roll is like the frog and the water. The term "rock and roll" means fornication. It is a street name for sexual immorality. It has wrecked the lives of many teenagers through suicide, drug abuse, immorality, perversion, Satanism, etc. Sadly, we live in a day where many Christians and church leaders are allowing this demonic music into their churches, claiming that the music is holy and sanctified because the lyrics are changed to include some 'religious' words. Where is the discernment in the church? Are Christians losing their ability to discern the difference between good and evil? The fact that this demonic music even made it into the church is proof of the moral and spiritual decline affecting the church today. We are being invaded by hard rock, acid rock, punk rock, new wave, and heavy metal music under the guise of religious rock and roll.

God says in His Word:

"O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!" (Deut 5:29).

"Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light" (Eph 5:6-8).

What's Wrong with Christian Rock and Rap?

As pictured to the left, John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod for speaking our uncompromisingly against Herod's adulterous affair with Herod's brother's wife (Herodias). Herodias hated John so much that she wanted him dead, and that's exactly what happened (Matthew 14:1-11).

The early church were faithful witnesses of the Truth of God's Word. As a result people were getting saved, and the idol makers were losing business. In anger, the idol makers almost killed Paul (Acts 19:27 and 30, "So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth ... And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not." Paul was severely beaten in Acts 21:32. He was eventually beheaded by Nero. Stephen was stoned to death in Acts Chapter 7. James was beheaded in Acts Chapter 12.

These early Christians were HATED of the world; not followed and admired. Jesus had forewarned them of this in John 15:19, "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Compare this, in contrast, to today's milquetoast believer who rarely stands for anything. I dare you to go to ANY so-called "Christian" rocker or rapper's website and show me the simple plan of salvation, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You cannot! The reason is because they are of the world, and the world follows them. This is why professed "Christian" rock-n-roll bands like P.O.D., Mercy Me, and Third Day have all appeared on the godless TONIGHT SHOW with Jay Leno. Do you think they would invite John the Baptist and allow him to preach on the TONIGHT SHOW? No way! James 4:4 plainly teaches that to be "a friend" of the world is to become God's enemy.

The Greek word for "friend" in this Scripture means "to assist." Thus, to assist the world, in any capacity, makes us God's enemy because we are then helping the Devil. Much of the CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) on the market is worldly trash, and not "Christian" by any standards. Christian rock/rap "assist" the Devil by drawing young people away from the Lord. Please don't miss what I'm about to say. There is NO such thing as "Christians rock."
